Thelephora species. probably T. palmata?
Densely clustering. No roots, visible mycelium or apparent shared central stem. Shallow layer of duff immediately below it was cemented together by something not visible. Growing in deep shade from an artifical structure; found in dougfir needle duff under a large doug-fir with all specimens located being inside of the drip line perimeter. Found 21 feb 2009 following a period of heavy rain (6+ inches). Occurring in Mendocino Co., California. Secondary regrowth forest comprised immediately locally of redwoods, dougfir & madrone. Thelephora are ectomycorrhizal. We know nothing about them but want to learn more. Copyright © by Keeper Trout |
